Lanarkshire Ladies County Golf Association was founded in the early 1900's (1908-1909) known as "The Lanarkshire Ladies Club" the main purpose of "County Clubs" was to encourage good players to compete against each other in order to improve their golf. Unfortunately the minute books prior to 1927 were lost. The earliest recorded Inter County Matches were in 1909. Matches were played against teams from Ayrshire, Dunbartonshire, Fife, Renfrewshire & Stirlingshire. Results from these matches were of interest to selectors and ladies who performed well could be considered for National & International teams just as they are at the present time. Competitions were not restricted to courses within Lanarkshire - Cardross, Western Gailes, Killermont & Prestwick were often used . Membership of the "Club" included players from Glasgow, Giffnock, Jordonhill, Kelvinside, Langside and many surrounding areas. At the 1927 A.G.M. membership stood at 80, annual subscription was 1/- (5p) and the Bank Balance was £4.5/- (£4.25p). Membership increased each year - 94 in 1930, 77 in 1946 after the war membership increased gradually until 1975 when it stood at 263. On the advise of the SLGA it was then restricted to 200 this policy still exists to day. We have eleven trophies all of which were presented by past Office Bearers, the oldest is the Black Jack Cup presented in 1925. All these trophies have been played for in different ways, however in recent years the format has remained the same and it is a great honour to win one. Lanarkshire has had it's share of honours at British, Scottish and West of Scotland Championships also in Curtis Cup and International teams. Away from the playing side of golf we have had members on LGU & SLGA committees as Presidents, Chairman, Executive committee members, selectors, Captains of International teams the list goes on and on. Pat Hutton of Lanark GC was recently SLGA Chairman and at the recent Curtis Cup Fiona Norris (better known as McKay) was the team manager and Anne Burden of Cambuslang GC is a selector.
